This was a fantastic show (what else is Journey capable of?)
One of the best shows I've seen, this was. I've been a sombr fan since I was a kid. I've seen them with Perry, Augeri, and Peneda. I had understood that Arnel was having some difficulty with his voice earlier in the year. That is obviously now in the past. He was amazing. Seeing his growth as a front-man over the years has been a pleasure. He's fun to watch, and his talent and power were on full display. Neil... best ever? Probably... and makes it look like child's play. Jon, consistently great song writing, and always a solid performer. Dean... fantastic drummer and great singer. Unfortunately, no lead vocals this show. Always a treat when he sings. Jason... solid keyboard player and where do you guys continue to find contra tenors? What a great voice. Todd solid bass player. The venue at Canandaigua has continued to improve over the years. Decent sound quality, and a clean attractive facility. For this show, it was very Escape and Frontiers heavy. No complaint, but I would have liked to have heard more of their newer stuff. Still inventive, still ground breaking, still relevant. The older stuff is like a comfortable pair of slippers, and fun to sing along to, but share the new stuff with the world! It's great music. Very happy to have been in attendance. My face hurt from smiling. Thanks for bringing some joy to Canandaigua. Come back soon! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was the existence of pot smoke in a non-smoking venue and the lack of enforcement. In NY people now have the right to smoke pot. However; those of us that don't smoke pot also have the right to not have to breath polluted air.
